The LIFE Capacity Building Project aims at increasing the diffusion of the LIFE Programme in Estonia, building competences which can support public and private organizations of the Baltic country in designing, presenting, and implementing projects in line with the Programme goals.

Representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Board, Environment Agency, Environmental Investment Centre, and Ministry of Econimic Affairs and Communication of the Republic of Estonia attended the meeting in Bologna.

Besides presenting the two projects, the meeting gave the opportunity to share views on environmental evaluation and communication and on the involvement of public and private organizations in European projects on environmental topics.

The LIFE MAGIS project, coordinated by ENEA and co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union, aims to support the diffusion of the Made Green in Italy scheme, promoted by the Italian Ministry of the Ecologic Transition to valorise the Italian products with the best environmental performances. The project works also to spread the Product Environmental Footprint, the method to calculate the environmental impact of products developed by the European Commission and on which the scheme is based.

Organizations representing the value chains involved in LIFE MAGIS, supported by the technical partners involved in the project, developed proposals for Regole di Categoria di Prodotto (in English Product Category Rules), i.e. the guidelines to be used to apply the calculation method to specific products, for both Made Green in Italy and Product Environmental Footprint.

More than twenty pilot companies have been involved to test these Rules to calculate the environmental impact of their production and identify improvement options.

During the event the work done for Made in Italy products involved in the project (onion of Medicina, sheep hard cheese, wooden windows, finished leathers, coffee, ice-cream, Italian seasonal leavened cakes, and non-puff pastries) will be presented, also to share the gained experience with other Italian supply chains willing to embark in a similar activity.

In addition, representatives from the Italian Ministry of the Ecologic Transition, managing the Made Green in Italy scheme and opening a second line of funding for the development of new Product Category Rules, and the European Agency CINEA, managing the LIFE Programme, will speak at the event.

From January 10 2022 and until July 10 2022 it is possible to apply for funding following the directions presented in the dedicated section of the Ministry website.

For each PCR the funding could cover up to 30.000 € of development costs incurred by the applicants, while the limit is reduced to 15.000 € if the PCR is the transposition as such of Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules already approved at European level.

L'articolo Discovering PEF – Product Environmental Footprint for the laymen proviene da LIFE MAGIS.

The event will be held at the Auditorium Pietro Floridia in Modica – RG (Italy) on December 9, 2021 from 5,30 pm till 8 pm. It aims at spreading the knowledge and use of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), especially in the supply chains of typical and high-quality products of the Hyblean area where the GAL Terra Barocca works (chocolate, wine, cheese, olive oil…).

During the meeting, ENEA will present the LIFE MAGIS project and the Made Green in Italy scheme, based on PEF. The Consortium for the Protection of Pecorino Romano Cheese will contribute with the experience it gained in using PEF and Made Green in Italy to valorise the also environmental side of POD and high-quality product.

On September 30 at 11 am at Hall 2 of Veronafiere, the event “Made Green in Italy e Banca dati italiana LCA: due iniziative concrete per valorizzare e comunicare la sostenibilità della filiera della pietra ornamentale” (tr.: Made Green in Italy and Italian LCA database: two concrete initiatives to valorise and communicate sustainability in the natural stone value chain) will be held.

Aachen University and ENEA will participate with the goal of engaging the natural stone value chain in the Made Green in Italy and PEF journeys and transferring the approach tested by LIFE MAGIS, especially in another value chain belonging to the building sector, the wooden windows one.

The ARCADIA project, which LIFE MAGIS collaborates with, will also be among the speakers.

The event will be broadcasted in the dedicated areas inside the exhibition centre and on-line on Marmomac Plus.

On September 10, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Emilia-Romagna Region stand the project will be hosted by the event dedicated to MEDI-C-A-RBONIO – Contabilizzazione del carbonio nel processo produttivo del foraggio, one of the projects developed by the European Innovation Partnership Operational Groups funded by the Region within the Rural Development Programme.

The MEDI-C-A-RBONIO project will present its activities, results, and, with LIFE MAGIS collaboration, foreseen future developments such as the interest in starting the Made Green in Italy journey.

The conference is the final event of  SheepToShip LIFE, one of the projects LIFE MAGIS collaborates with, realized from July 2016 to June 2021 and funded by the EU LIFE Programme 2014-2020 with the aim to reduce by 20% in 10 years the greenhouse gas emissions of the sheep dairy sector in Sardinia, through the identification and application of eco-innovative techniques.

The online conference intends to discuss how to move from sustainable practices into governance tools adopting eco-innovation to meet policy goals. In particular, during the conference the Environmental Action Plan for the Sardinian dairy sheep supply chain, the main outcome of SheepToShip LIFE project, will be presented. The debate is promoted in a multi-policy European context, from Climate Change adaptation and Sustainable Development paths and frameworks, to Rural Development Programmes and Green Deal strategy, in a multiscale perspective relevant for sheep farming and, more in general, for the entire livestock sector, at regional, national and European levels.

The conference is addressed to decision-makers, researchers, farmers’ associations and individual farmers, representatives of the cheese industry, consumers and other livestock stakeholders.

The event is free. The official languages are English and Italian. During the event simultaneous translation will be provided in Italian and English.
